Free your colors.
hashColor is a simple macOS and iPad app for sharing colors.
There are lots of resources for color inspiration, and lots of design and coding software have elegant solutions for working with color. The missing piece is sharing colors across the life of a project.
hashColor files are saved in SVG (scaleable vector format) format that can be opened with design software, code editors, and web browsers. SVG files are viewable on almost any device.
A simple color utility. And a bigger concept.
Design software should make being creative easy and fun.
Unfortunately, large software companies continue to find dubious ways to
capitalize on designers,
their work and
data, and often
leave users in unfortunate situations.
With this reality in mind, there are several important concepts behind the design of hashColor:
- files and data should be freely available outside of any web platform or application to view, edit and share as needed.
- where possible, data should be stored in non-proprietary formats, making it accessible to other software applications.
- software should know when to stay out of your way - modern software is becoming frustrating to use, with promotional dialogs, feature alerts, and suggestions that are rarely helpful.
- software should be fun to use.
